Revealed: 10 Things You Didn’ Know About Nelson Mandela

Africa and the world at large is still in a mourning state over the death of a South-African legend, Nelson Mandela.
He was loved and admired the world over, profiled in books and movies, and showered with awards and accolades. But even the most public of personalities have little-known facts buried in their biographies.
Here are 10 surprising facts you probably didn’t know about Nelson Mandela:
1. He lived up to his name: Mandela’s birth name was Rolihlahla. In his Xhosa tribe, the name means pulling the branch of a tree or troublemaker. (The name “Nelson” was given to him by his teacher on his first day of elementary school. It’s not clear why she chose that particular name. It was the 1920s, and African children were given English names so colonial masters could pronounce them easily).

The Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria, BON, and the Independent Broadcasting Association of Nigeria, IBAN, have stopped airing  musical productions belonging to Chief Ebenezer Obey, 2Face Idibia, Onyeka Onwenu, Banky W and thousands of other members of the Copyright Society of Nigeria, COSON.
In a statement jointly signed by Sonny Adun and Guy Murray Bruce, IBAN Chairman and Secretary respectively, the two bodies said they were constrained to take this step principally as “a result of COSON’s attitude of antagonism and harassment under the leadership of Tony Okoroji (COSON Chairman)”.

ASUU Strike 2013: Classes Resume at At Least 5 Universities

The ASUU strike in 2013 continues, but the latest update is that classes have resumed at at least five universities in Nigeria.

Students at the following universities had either started classes on Monday or were planning to attend classes on Tuesday, per directives from school officials:
-Enugu State University of Science and Technology
-Federal University of Technology Owerri, Imo State
-University of Jos
-University of Benin (December 7 start date)
-Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko
At the University of Jos, lecturers have been directed by registrar Jilli Dandam to return to work immediately, reported the Leadership.
“The Pro Chancellor and Chairman of Council on behalf of the Governing Council has directed that all academic staff of the University of Jos should return to their various departments, units and commence work immediately,” Dandem said in a directive. “Every head of department should publish lecture time-tables for all academic programs immediately.”
Students at Enugu State University of Science and Technology returned to classes on Monday. The Federal University of Technology Owerri, Imo State was planning to start classes on Tuesday.
At Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko classes were resumed at some departments on Monday, the Daily Post reported.
“I think our Vice-Chancellor has compassion on us and that was why he asked us to resume; we have stayed too long at home,” said Oladimeji Ogunwale, a student. “It is a very good development. I know that lectures will continue without interruption”
The Nigerian Television Authority reportedly indicated that the University of Benin planned to resume classes on December 7 in preparation for exams on January 6.
At the same time, only four out of 600 lecturers resumed work, reported the Nigerian Eye. “We remain resolute not to go back to work in spite of the military order from the government,” said an anonymous professor. “Let them sack all of us, including those in medical colleges and let us see how far we can go.”
The situation is getting intense because the Nigerian government said that any lecturers still striking on December 4 would be removed.
But after the government announced the deadline, ASUU members mocked the government.
“Our reaction is simple. Let us just wait for the seven days to come around,” said Oghenekaro Ogbinaka, the head of the University of Lagos’ branch of the union. “We are not going to fall to that blackmail. Now, which one is better: government acceding to our demands or issuing out threats?”
ASUU National Treasurer Dr. Ademola Aremu said the Dec. 4 ultimatum is a sign of desperation, and he added that the threat won’t keep the ASUU from striking.
“It is a pity if the federal government is not willing to perfect the resolutions reached with the union,” he said. “This is why we find it difficult to trust our leaders by their words. How can someone be threatening to sack lecturers when universities are already short-staffed by almost 60,000?”
However, the latest actions by the universities appear to show that the strike is splintering and will be over soon for everybody.
The strike began in July and has disrupted classes for hundreds of thousands of students across the country. It has appeared numerous times over the past month or so to be close to ending, but the government and union leadership have not been able to come to an agreement, prompting President Goodluck Jonathan to issue the ultimatum.

For failure to return to classroom, FUTO sacks all academic staff

For failure to return to classrooms, the Senate of the Federal University of Technology Owerri (FUTO) has sacked all academic staff on its payroll with immediate effect. The sack order was made known by the Public Relations Officers (PRO) of the institution, Mr Chike Ezenwa, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune in Owerri, through telephone.

According to him, the senate of the university had declared all the positions of academic staff in the institution, adding that they would be advertised starting from Monday, December 2.

The senate council, he explained, had already compiled the list of vacant positions in the school, adding that who were willing to resume would be adequately protected. Continue...

Meanwhile, the FUTO branch of ASUU has said any attempt to break their ranks would be strongly resisted by their members.

This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end o their meeting held on Monday, and signed by both the chairman and secretary, Dr Ikenna Nwachukwu and Dr F.M. Eke respectively.

The communiqué urged members to ignore the resumption notice by FUTO management, adding that the branch would not engage in any academic activities until the Federal Government commited itself to implementing the ASUU-FGN agreement.

After 11 months, he was released and given two months parole plus community service on the grounds of being of “good behaviour”. Strapless Bra That Defies Gravity : Inner Cups With Magnetic Force To Keep Breasts Lifted

A new strapless bra for women with larger breasts is being hailed as a ‘revolution in underwear’. Using two inner cups held by a patent-pending magnetic device, the Kewi Bra, set to launch on Christmas Day for $150, claims to have a lift potential of 11.2lbs.

“A large cup size does not have to mean a lifetime of discomfort and back pain,” said Kewi Bra founder Muyiwa Olumide. “Because the bra was developed to satisfy a real need following a request from a friend of mine, great pains have been taken to ensure that the fit and comfort are absolutely perfect,” he added.

After four years of research, testing, feedback analysis and working with engineers and designers, the Kewi Bra prototype was created.

‘All Catholics Will Go To Hell Because They Worship Satan’ – Chris Okotie

1380575_558460694208673_472110884_n
PMNews. Report
Nigeria’s controversial preacher and former presidential candidate, Chris Okotie, told his congregation last Sunday, that:
”All Catholics in the world will go to hell because they worship Satan and are led by an Anti-Christ Pope who is a friend to the devil,” -
Fifty-five year old Okotie, while preaching in his Household of God Church in Ikeja area of Lagos, said the Catholic church is “a counterfeit church set up by Satan” and that Catholics “bow to idols and crucify Jesus every Sunday when they eat bread claiming they are eating Jesus’ body.”
Okotie told a stunned congregation:
They are not Christians and have never been. They don’t know Jesus. They believe that
when they eat bread on Sundays, they are eating the body of Jesus. It’s ritual.
The pope is an Anti-Christ and the Catholic church will soon declare for Satan. This is the end of times,”
